   ABOUT BOLTON SHOTOKAN KARATE CLUB

 

Bolton Shotokan Karate Club has been serving Bolton and Bury since it was founded by Sensei McKenzie in 1980.

 

The club has built on its reputation as a family orientated club and caters for individual adults and children as well as families. Learning Karate is a great way of becoming and staying both physically and mentally fit and equally important, you will have a great time learning how to defend yourself and taking advantage of some quality leisure time spent and meeting new friends who share an interest. Many of our members have been part of or trained with the England National Team, and many are regional, national and international winners at both Kumite (application) and Kata (form).

 

Our Sensei Kyoshi Paul McKenzie 8th Dan is one of Great Britain's most senior SHOTOKAN Karate instructors. Sensei is also the England National Coach and a world qualified referee. He is recognised at home and overseas and is asked to teach both kumite and kata abroad on a regular basis.

 

Sensei is supported by a very experienced and accomplished team of instructors with over 100 years experience between them!

 

  ABOUT SHOTOKAN KARATE

 

Shotokan Karate is a traditional style of karate introduced in Japan by Gichin Funakoshi. Master Funakoshi was born and raised in Okinawa, the birthplace of Karate and is regarded as the father of modern day Karate with many of today’s styles originating from his techniques.

 

Shotokan was established in 1939 following a number of public demonstrations in Japan showing how Okinawan techniques can be taught and by promoting the development of Karate Dojos.
